Pakistan’s opposition leader Imran Khan has been arrested and detained in custody for eight days following his indictment in a corruption case. This move sparked violent protests across several regions of the country, leading to the deaths of at least seven people. Khan is accused of unlawfully selling state gifts when he was prime minister between 2018-22, and has called the charges politically motivated.
