2024: Record-Breaking Warmth
The European Copernicus Climate Change Monitoring Service has reported that 2024 was the warmest year on record. The average global temperature increased by more than 1.5 degrees compared to pre-industrial levels for the period of 1850-1900. This marks the first time such a significant temperature rise has been recorded.
In comparison to the previous year, 2023, where the temperature increase was at 1.48 degrees, 2024 stands out as a year where the temperature rise exceeded previous records. The entire last decade has been marked as the warmest on record, indicating a concerning trend in global temperature increases.
Experts attribute last year’s temperature increase to a combination of human activity and natural weather conditions like El Niño. It is crucial for global leaders and policymakers to take urgent action in order to address the climate crisis and mitigate the impacts of climate change on our planet.
