2025 Grand Prix Revs Up on Lake Balaton
The thrill of motorcycle racing is set to return to Hungary next year with the announcement of the World Motorcycle Speed Championship and the Superbike World Championship taking place at the Balaton Park Circuit near Balatonfőkajár on the eastern shore of Lake Balaton.
During a press conference at the facility, it was revealed that the Superbike World Championship will visit the track from July 25-27, followed by the MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 World Championship categories on the weekend of August 22-24.
This marks a significant moment as MotoGP will be returning to Hungary after 33 years, and the Superbike World Championship after 35 years. To ensure the track meets the necessary standards to host these prestigious events, the Balaton Park Circuit will undergo additional improvements to obtain a “Grade A” license.
The contract has been signed for a 10-year period from 2025 to 2034, with the Balaton Park Circuit entering into a three-year collaboration with the HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency for promotion and organization.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of the promoter company Dorna, expressed the importance of Hungary in their plans and emphasized the successful collaboration with the Hungarian government and HUMDA to make the events possible. He is confident that the races will be a success in terms of spectator numbers.
Preparations for the races are already underway, with Adrienn Walterné Dancsó, Operations Director of the Balaton Park Circuit, outlining the modifications needed to accommodate the Superbike World Championship and MotoGP teams. Work is scheduled to begin in October with the aim of completion by March or April.
Henrik Hermann, president of the Hungarian National Motorsport Association, pledged full support to ensure the success of the races next year, highlighting the positive impact of hosting world-class events on Hungarian motorsport.
Tickets for the 2025 Hungarian MotoGP and Superbike races are expected to go on sale later this year, with HUMDA’s goal being to make motorcycle racing accessible to as many fans as possible.
The return of these championship events to Hungary marks a significant milestone for the country’s motorsport history, with a rich legacy of past successes and a promising future ahead. Excitement is building as Hungary gears up to welcome top riders and teams to the iconic Balaton Park Circuit.
