Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca spoke at an iftar program organized by the Ministry of Health at the Haliç Congress Center on March 14, Medicine Day. During his speech, Koca highlighted the importance of the day and the significance of the medical profession in Turkey.
Koca mentioned President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s continuous support for the medical community in overcoming challenges. He also explained the historical significance of March 14, which commemorates the acts of “physician patriotism” by medical students 105 years ago who raised the flag of freedom against occupation forces in Istanbul.
The Minister emphasized the themes of “homeland” and “modernity” that underpin Medicine Day, celebrating the advancements in the field of medicine in Turkey. He praised the country’s achievements in modern medical education and scientific competence, stating that March 14 is a day to celebrate the present and future of medicine in the country.
Koca also expressed gratitude for the valuable contributions of doctors, noting that the profession brings healing to patients and pride to the state. He highlighted the government’s efforts to support and protect healthcare professionals, including measures such as the “White Reform” initiated by President Erdoğan.
Furthermore, Koca outlined the improvements made in healthcare, including enhanced legal protections for physicians and increased specialist placements in hospitals. He also mentioned the successful implementation of regulations in medical education, ensuring a promising future for the medical profession in Turkey.
Looking ahead, Koca discussed upcoming reforms in health education and President Erdoğan’s vision for a healthier Turkey. He expressed determination to continue making progress in the healthcare sector and to celebrate more meaningful Medicine Days in the years to come.
