Abai Region’s Wildfire Significantly Reduced, Says Local Authorities
Firefighters in Kazakhstan’s Abai region are gradually bringing the wildfires under control after battling the blazes for over a week. As of June 13, only smouldering fires remain and efforts to monitor and extinguish the blazes continue. The fires ultimately affected approximately 60,000 hectares of land, with firefighting efforts involving 1,900 people and 360 pieces of equipment. As temperatures range between 27°C and 32°C and strong winds persist, the situation remains difficult, but rain, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures are expected to help ease the situation. Kazakhstan has not requested international assistance in tackling the blazes, but countries worldwide have offered their support.
