QazaqGaz National Company and UCC Holding Agree on Major Gas Projects in Kazakhstan
ASTANA — QazaqGaz national company and UCC Holding, a part of Qatar’s Power International Holding, have reached a consensus on four major gas projects in Kazakhstan. This agreement was made during a meeting of the Energy Council on May 3, which was chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, as reported by the Prime Minister’s press service.
One of the key projects includes the construction of two gas processing plants with capacities of one billion cubic meters and 2.5 billion cubic meters per year. The aim of these plants is to utilize raw gas more efficiently by increasing processing capacity.
Additionally, the commissioning of a new compressor station and the Aktobe-Kostanai main gas pipeline will ensure the supply of gas to the population and local industrial enterprises in the Kostanai Region.
The construction of the second line of the Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent gas pipeline will play a critical role in enhancing Kazakhstan’s energy security. This project will facilitate the distribution of gas to southern, central, and northern regions while maintaining export volumes.
Prime Minister Bektenov has emphasized that he will personally oversee the monitoring of the implementation of agreements reached between the Presidents of both countries in February.
According to the Ministry of Energy and QazaqGaz, gas production in Kazakhstan is expected to increase to 60.4 billion cubic meters in 2024. Projects such as Tengiz, Karachaganak, and Kashagan currently contribute over 85% of the production. Commercial gas production is anticipated to reach 28 billion cubic meters in 2024.
