Aid Convoy En Route to Eastern Provinces Ravaged by Wildfires
Mongolia Battles Forest-Steppe Fires Caused by Human Negligence
Since the beginning of 2025, Mongolia has been facing a series of forest-steppe fires that have devastated the land and caused significant damage. A total of 11 wildfires have occurred, burning an area of 18,880 hectares. Shockingly, about 90 percent of these fires were caused by human negligence.
The situation has been made worse by strong winds and storms that continue to sweep across the country. As of March 9, reports of forest-steppe fires have been recorded in three eastern provinces and Arkhangai province. Dornod, Khentii, Sukhbaatar, and Arkhangai provinces have all been affected by these destructive fires.
The impact of these fires on local communities has been severe, with many families losing their homes and livestock. In response, the National Emergency Management Agency has decided to provide assistance to those affected by the fires. An aid convoy will be heading to the eastern provinces on March 11, 2025. This aid will include the provision of gers to families, medical care, reconstruction of homes and environments, psychological counseling, livestock rehabilitation, disposal of animal carcasses, disinfection, and support for livelihoods.
The establishment of a task force to coordinate these efforts highlights the seriousness of the situation and the commitment of the authorities to help those in need. The people of Mongolia are coming together to support their fellow citizens in a time of crisis, showing resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.
