Ankara’s Water Prices soar – Breaking News
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Increases Water and Wastewater Fee by 30.2 Percent
During the fifth meeting of December at the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Assembly Hall, the 1st Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Council, Ertan Işık, chaired the discussions where a significant decision was made regarding water and wastewater fees.
After thorough discussions, it was decided by majority vote that the water and wastewater fee would be increased to 35 lira, marking a significant 30.2 percent increase. This decision will come into effect as of January 1, 2025.
However, there is some relief for certain groups as well. Citizens receiving social assistance in Ankara will still only be charged 1 lira per cubic meter of water for usage up to 10 cubic meters. Additionally, families of martyrs and veterans, disabled individuals, and university students will continue to benefit from a 50 percent discount on their water bills.
Overall, while the increase in water and wastewater fees may be a burden for some, the municipality is ensuring that vulnerable groups continue to receive support through discounts and special rates.
