Antalya Witnesses Surge in Public Transportation Services

Increase in Public Transportation Fees in Antalya by more than 50 Percent

Public transportation fees in Antalya have recently increased by over 50 percent following hikes in fuel prices. The full fare, previously set at 9.60 Turkish liras, has now been raised to 15 liras.

The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Department of Transportation Planning and Rail System (UKOME) General Assembly convened today to discuss the demands made by public transport drivers for a wage increase in light of the recent surge in fuel prices. The representatives of the drivers highlighted the challenges they faced in hiring drivers and maintaining operations with the simultaneous increase in minimum wage and fuel costs. They requested a wage of 17 liras.

After negotiations during the meeting, the wages were increased by more than 50 percent. The full fare, initially set at 9.60 liras, has been raised to 15 liras. Additionally, student fares have increased from 4 liras to 6.50 liras, while pensioners and teachers will now pay 14 liras instead of the previous 8.40 liras. The transfer fee has also been raised to 5.50 liras. These new fares will come into effect tomorrow.

Public transportation plays a vital role in the daily lives of Antalya residents, and the increase in prices will certainly impact their budgets. However, the wage increase for drivers aims to address their challenges and ensure the availability and efficiency of the public transport system in the city.

It remains to be seen how this increase will be received by the public and whether alternative transportation options will be explored. As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, it is essential for public transportation authorities to strike a balance between accommodating driver demands and maintaining affordable fares for the residents of Antalya.
