Arıklı: Final Stage of Traffic Master Plan Reached, Two-State Solution Urged
Minister Erhan Arıklı of the Rebirth Party (YDP) recently addressed the Republic Assembly, emphasizing the importance of traffic management in the country. Arıklı highlighted the ongoing work on the Traffic Master Plan, which aims to improve road safety and reduce accidents.
With a focus on increasing speed controls, Arıklı mentioned the installation of approximately 300 cameras across the island to monitor traffic violations. He also highlighted the imposition of significant fines for traffic offenses and noted that speeding and alcohol consumption were leading causes of fatal accidents in the country.
Regarding the political situation in Cyprus, Arıklı expressed surprise at President Ersin Tatar’s upcoming meeting with the UN Secretary General and the President of the Greek Cypriot Administration. He stressed the importance of maintaining the two-state solution and warned of severe consequences if discussions veer towards a federation.
Arıklı called on President Tatar to reassure the public about the government’s stance on negotiations, emphasizing the need to avoid repeating past mistakes in the pursuit of a peaceful resolution. The Minister’s statements indicate a firm commitment to road safety and the preservation of the country’s political interests.
