Armenia in Talks to Secure Turkmen Gas Supply from the East

Armenia Explores Option to Purchase Natural Gas from Turkmenistan
Armenia is looking into the possibility of acquiring natural gas from Turkmenistan, according to an announcement by the Prime Minister’s advisor, Artashes Tumanyan. Discussions have already begun with the State Concern “Turkmengaz” regarding the potential procurement.
The proposed method of delivery involves a SWAP arrangement through Iran, which has already given its approval for the transit. It is reported by “Armenpress” that Armenia is considering purchasing between 600 million and 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan.
In addition to the direct procurement, there is also a consideration for the transit of Turkmen gas through Armenia to Georgia. Georgia has expressed its willingness to cooperate on this front, which could open up new avenues for energy supply to the Black Sea region countries.
Currently, Armenia already imports gas from Iran through the “Gas in exchange for electricity” program. Additionally, the country’s gas transportation system is managed by “Gazprom Armenia”.
This potential collaboration between Armenia, Turkmenistan, and Georgia could have significant implications for the energy landscape in the region, offering new opportunities for gas supply and transit.
