Defendant Remains in Detention as Sakarya High Criminal Court Continues Murder Trial
The Sakarya 6th High Criminal Court held a hearing for the murder case of two real estate agents whose dismembered bodies were found buried in a garbage bag in July. The defendant, identified as Iranian national AM, appeared in court with his attorneys. The public prosecutor demanded the continuation of AM’s detention and correction of missing issues, while the complainant lawyer also requested for the missing issues to be addressed. On the other hand, AM’s lawyer demanded the release of his client and the completion of the missing issues. The detained defendant maintained his innocence and reiterated his previous statements, saying, “I did not commit this crime, I am innocent.”
The court decided to continue the detention of the accused and send the case file to the public prosecutor to prepare an opinion for the accused. The court also decided to listen to the witnesses and adjourned the hearing to July 11.
The murder investigation began in July after a citizen reported finding a cut leg while walking his dog in the field on Bağdat Street in the Kırkpınar District of Sapanca. Police teams soon discovered the dismembered bodies of an Iranian woman named AS and a man named MZ, who were both real estate agents. The detectives of the Murder Bureau of the Sakarya Police Department Public Security Branch, who conducted a large-scale investigation, identified AM as the prime suspect. Iranian national AM was taken into custody for the murder and later arrested by the court.
