
ASELSAN Wins Contract to Provide Leopard 2A4 Defense Equipment

Turkish defense companies ASELSAN and BMC have signed a contract worth €197.4m ($235m) and TRY1.3bn ($153m) for the modernization of Leopard 2A4 tanks under the TİYK-LEO2A4 project. The project, initiated by the Presidency of Defense Industries for the modernization of Leopard 2A4 tanks, aims to equip them with systems developed using national resources. ASELSAN will act as the main subcontractor responsible for the tank mission systems and will provide the Tank Fire Control System, Remote Controlled Weapon System, Tank Command Control Communication and Information System, Tank Laser Warning System, Driver Vision System, Active Protection System and Close Range Surveillance System under the contract. The project’s first phase will see 81 Leopard 2A4s modernized and there is an option for 250 units. The TİYK-LEO2A4 project is expected to significantly increase the tank’s capabilities, with similar capability increases to the Leopard 2A4NG expected at the conclusion of the project.
