Astana International Forum: Real-Time Updates
The Astana International Forum (AIF) opened on June 8, with the aim of promoting multilateralism and global cooperation. The forum included speeches from global leaders and international organizations, with a focus on challenges such as climate change and economic development. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation, stating that “multilateralism, centered on UN values and principles, is not merely the most effective way to address challenges, it is the only path.” The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, expressed concerns about trade and investment restrictions, and suggested pragmatic multilateral solutions such as uniting to fight climate change and pandemic. The plenary session also included speeches from the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on the importance of regional cooperation and addressing global challenges.
