Azerbaijan and Algeria Hold Second Political Consultations in Algiers
The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Azerbaijan and the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Algeria recently convened for the second meeting of political consultations in the city of Algiers. Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev led the Azerbaijani delegation, while Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lounes Magraman headed the Algerian delegation.
During the consultations, both sides engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the current state and future prospects of their bilateral political, economic, trade, and inter-parliamentary relations. The potential for collaboration in the oil and gas sector, as well as renewable energy, was highlighted as a significant opportunity for mutual benefit.
Additionally, the parties explored avenues for enhancing cooperation within international organizations such as the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Azerbaijan’s upcoming hosting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit in 2026 was emphasized as a noteworthy event, showcasing the country’s track record in successfully organizing international gatherings.
The Azerbaijani delegation also briefed the Algerian side on the post-conflict scenario in Azerbaijan, including efforts towards reconstruction in the liberated territories, demining operations, and the repatriation of displaced citizens.
Furthermore, discussions encompassed regional and global issues of shared interest, underscoring the commitment to furthering collaboration in various fields. Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev also met with Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, to underscore the importance of bolstering economic, trade, and investment ties.
As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Rafiyev visited the National Mujahideen Museum of Algeria, where he learned about the country’s historical struggle against colonialism. Overall, the meeting signified a step towards strengthening bilateral relations and fostering increased cooperation between Azerbaijan and Algeria.
