Prime Minister Ünal Üstel attended the opening of the ’50 Years of Cyprus Peace Operation Photography Exhibition’ prepared by the Turkish Ministry of National Defense under the command of the Harbiye Military Museum and Cultural Site in Istanbul.

Prime Minister Üstel was accompanied by Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak at the opening.

Prime Minister Üstel thanked Yaşar Güler, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and those who contributed to the opening of the exhibition.

Turkish Cypriot People are struggling for their existence
Reminding us, Üstel said that the struggle for existence was fought together with the Motherland Türkiye, whom the Turkish Cypriot people have always trusted and loved.

Prime Minister Üstel emphasized that despite all kinds of pressure and economic embargo, Turkish Cypriots continue their struggle for existence in good relations with the Republic of Turkey.

Pointing out that the Israel-Palestine war continues today, Üstel said, “Bombs are falling every day in this war, which has lasted more than a year. Nearly 45,000 people, including children, die. The UN is still silent and the Security Council is watching. The EU is watching. Türkiye is the only one making a sound. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is calling on the world on every platform. “But when we look at it, it looks like the ongoing war will continue until the people there are destroyed one by one,” he said.

Reminding that the people of Cyprus also experienced the same oppression, torture, embargo and genocide, Üstel said, “These are not far away from us. Again, the UN watched, the Security Council watched, and despite all this, the EU incorporated a problematic place and is still watching.”

Pointing out that Turkish Cypriots have a difference from Palestine, Üstel emphasized that Türkiye is always on the side of Turkish Cypriots.

Üstel said, “We had our Motherland, Türkiye, we had Turkish military commanders. We had Mehmetçik. They came to our rescue on every platform, acted together with us, and with the Peace Operation of July 20, 1974, against all oppression, Turkish Cypriots gained their freedom. With the Peace Operation, not only Turkish Cypriots but also Greek Cypriots gained freedom. “The Republic of Türkiye also brought peace to the Greek side,” he said.

Recalling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the UN General Assembly meetings, Üstel said, “Immediately following the call to recognize the TRNC, we became an observer member of TDT and our goal is full membership and we continue on our way for this purpose.”

Prime Minister Üstel then visited the exhibition with Turkish Minister of National Defense Güler, Minister of Culture and Tourism Ersoy and the commanders.

Prime Minister Üstel also accompanied the Cyprus songs sung by the band.
