President Ersin Tatar attended the first screening of the feature film “Teşgilat Minalayalar Zamanı” in Ankara yesterday.
The first screening of the film, shot by the Mormenekşe Women’s Union, organized by the Turkish Cypriot Cultural Association, took place at Çankaya Municipality Doğan Taşdelen Contemporary Arts Center.
Directed by Ahmet Eray Gündoğmuş and written by Erşen Ummanel, the film tells the story of Muratağa, Atlılar, Sandallar Massacre and the summer of 1974 through the eyes of children.
According to the statement made by the Presidency, Tatar, in his speech at the event, pointed out that the massacres committed in the villages of Muratağa, Sandallar and Atlılar, described in the movie, have very few examples in the world. Tatar said that those who did this were police and soldiers, but they went down in history as murders that were not tried, and former Greek Foreign Minister Erato Kozaku Markulli also admitted this.
Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people, who experienced pain and massacres, gained their freedom and independence with the Cyprus Peace Operation, Tatar noted that there has been peace, tranquility and trust on the island for 50 years.
Stating that despite contemporary values, the war has continued in the middle of Europe in Bosnia in the recent past and now in Ukraine and Gaza, Tatar drew attention to the importance of Turkey’s guarantorship and military presence.
President Tatar thanked the president and board members of the Cyprus Turkish Cultural Association and Mormenekşe Women’s Union Association, who organized the event, and those who contributed to the film.
President Tatar returned to the island last evening after completing his 2-day contacts in Samsun and Ankara.
