Making a statement on the occasion of World Human Rights Day, the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association stated that there are serious deficiencies in access to health services.

In the statement, it was reminded that the right to health was expressed in the 25th article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, and said: “Everyone has the right to achieve health and well-being for himself and his family. This right includes not only physical health, but also It also includes spiritual and social well-being. “Patient rights ensure that individuals have access to qualified, respectable and equal health services.”

In the statement, it was also stated that there are serious deficiencies in the implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in TRNC.

In the statement, which stated that infrastructure deficiencies and harsh working conditions in the field of public health are among the problems, “People’s access to health services is prevented not only by infrastructure deficiencies and economic obstacles, but also by the systematic neglect policies of the public authority. In particular, infrastructural inadequacies in access to health services, economic difficulties and harsh working conditions of health workers lead to serious rights violations. “In addition, awareness, sensitivity and control mechanisms regarding patient rights are inadequate.”

In the statement, it was noted that urgent steps should be taken to strengthen the health infrastructure, and the statement said, “The Government and the Ministry of Health should take immediate action to strengthen the health infrastructure, facilitate access to public health services, improve the personal rights of health workers and secure the rights of patients.”
