Israeli Warplanes Strike Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley for Second Consecutive Day
In the dead of night, the quiet of the eastern Bekaa Valley in Lebanon was shattered by the sounds of aircraft and explosions as Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes for the second consecutive day. Witnesses reported multiple explosions in several towns, turning night into day and sending residents running in fear to their balconies and windows.
The Bekaa Valley, known as a stronghold of the militant group Hezbollah, has been a target in the ongoing conflict between Lebanon and Israel. The area is located 100 kilometers from the Israeli border and has been the site of previous clashes between the two sides. Lebanon’s authorities have reported at least one person killed and 20 wounded in the latest airstrikes, including children and a pregnant woman.
The recent escalation in violence follows the killing of Fuad Shukur, the second-in-command of Hezbollah, in a missile strike in Beirut. Hezbollah has vowed retaliation for the attack, leading to fears of all-out war in the region. Israeli military officials have confirmed the airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley, claiming they targeted Hezbollah’s weapons depots.
Hezbollah has responded to the Israeli strikes with missile attacks and armed drones, leading to further tension along the border. Sirens have been sounding in northern Israel, with reports of rockets fired by Hezbollah and damage to buildings in the area. The conflict, known as the northern front, is expected to continue throughout the day.
In addition to the airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley, Israeli artillery fire has been reported in the border village of Khiam, resulting in the death of a Syrian national. There are also reports of an armed drone attack in the city of Saida, causing a vehicle to burst into flames.
As the situation escalates, both sides are bracing for further violence. Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has vowed that Israel will pay a price for their actions, setting the stage for a potentially dangerous escalation in the conflict between Lebanon and Israel.
