Brussels Ignoring Farmers’ Protests and Stigmatizing Instead of Reviewing Decisions
Farmers Protest Against EU’s Agricultural Policy in Brussels
Recently, a farmers’ demonstration took place in Brussels to protest against the European Union’s agricultural policy. The protest occurred just before Thursday’s EU summit, and the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) Brussels expressed its support for the protesters in a statement.
The MCC Brussels stated that after the farmers’ protests in Germany, farming communities in several Western European countries organized mass demonstrations, with the demonstrations also reaching the European Union headquarters in Brussels. Over 1,000 tractors were part of the march by farmers in the European quarter to coincide with an extraordinary European Council meeting.
The statement from MCC Brussels highlighted the discomfort of the Brussels elites, noting that they cannot hide in their ivory towers. The farmers’ protests have forced them to face reality in the streets.
The MCC Brussels also condemned how the mainstream media in the West has been quick to label the demonstrators as right-wing extremists and has falsely portrayed them as being driven by political movements. They accused politicians, such as a German green party MEP, of starting a fake news campaign.
Moreover, some media representatives have baselessly alleged the influence of MCC Brussels behind the protests, which the MCC Brussels has refuted as “nonsense without any basis in reality.” The office stressed that they are dedicated to addressing neglected issues in Brussels that continue to be vital for the people of Europe.
The MCC Brussels made it clear that they fully support the farmers and condemned the patronizing attitude of the Brussels elite. They affirmed that they do not condone violence in any form and will continue to fight to bring the real problems of the European people to the attention of the EU elite.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also expressed his solidarity with the protesting farmers in a Facebook post, calling on bureaucrats in Brussels to listen to the voice of the people.
The farmers’ protest in Brussels and across Europe serves as a powerful message to the EU decision-makers, shedding light on the urgent issues faced by agricultural communities. The MCC Brussels’ support for the farmers reflects a commitment to addressing the social problem of agriculture in Europe.
