Building Sites in Tolnanémedi Sold for One Forint by Local Government

The small Hungarian village of Tolnanémedi has announced the sale of residential plots of 3,000-4,000 square meters, with or without public utilities, to attract young people to move to the area. Tolnanémedi currently has a population of just 991, down from 1,100 in 2017, and Mayor Vígh László hopes that offering affordable plots of land will encourage young people to settle in the area. There are no age restrictions for applicants, but plots purchased must not be left empty for ten years after purchase. Prices for plots of land with public utilities range from 2-5 million forints. This initiative is part of the village’s plan to increase the number of residents and prevent population decline.
