BYD Partners with Vocational Training Centers to Foster Young Talent in Hungary
Chinese automotive giant BYD has taken a significant step in establishing its presence in Europe by signing a cooperation agreement with six vocational training centers in the Southern Great Plain region, along with the University of Szeged. This partnership aligns with the construction of BYD’s first European factory in the southern Hungarian city, with production expected to commence this autumn.
At a recent event, Veronika Varga-Bajusz, the State Secretary for Higher Education, Vocational and Adult Education, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the educational framework in Hungary. She noted that the goal is to transform both universities and vocational training centers into vital components of regional development, ensuring they provide high-quality education that meets market demands. "Young individuals completing their education are crucial in strengthening the economy and supplying skilled labor to businesses," she stated.
The agreement details how BYD Auto Hungary Kft., the University of Szeged, and local vocational training centers will collaborate to provide pathways for students to build careers within the company. Gábor Gan, director of BYD’s presidential office in Hungary, remarked that this partnership lays the groundwork for long-term cooperation aimed at not only expanding production capacity but also fostering a genuine knowledge hub in Szeged.
As part of this initiative, BYD plans to offer practical training for students in both vocational and higher education settings, as well as professional training for recent graduates. The company aims to create numerous career opportunities for talented youth in Szeged over the coming years. Gan highlighted BYD’s commitment to continuous development, stating, "We intend to make the latest industry knowledge accessible to as many people as possible." He believes that Szeged and its region can play a significant role in Hungary’s overall development.
László Salgó, commissioner of the Csongrád-Csanád County Government Office, pointed out that the construction of BYD’s car factory marks the largest investment in the Southern Great Plain. The electric vehicle manufacturing facility is expected to employ around 10,000 specialists, thereby becoming one of the region’s largest employers, alongside the University of Szeged. BYD is particularly committed to hiring local Hungarian workers. Discussions have already commenced among the company, ministry representatives, and regional vocational training centers, culminating in this key agreement.
With its factory set to begin production soon, BYD is poised to make a substantial impact on the local economy and the employment landscape in Szeged, fostering growth and innovation in Hungary’s automotive sector.
