Central Asian Countries Must Overcome Multiple Challenges to Ensure Sustainable Development, Says Uzbek Prime Minister
The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, has highlighted the challenges faced by countries in Central Asia at an international forum held in Astana. According to Aripov, Central Asian nations are grappling with issues including climate change, scarcity of natural resources, water shortages, the socio-economic impact of the pandemic, and an energy crisis. The Prime Minister has called for a constructive dialogue and collective action to mitigate the challenges to ensure sustainable development in the region.
Aripov commended the heads of states in Central Asia for political solutions aimed at addressing existing problems and fostering new cooperation among them. The trade turnover between the countries of Central Asia has increased significantly in recent years, and Aripov hopes to expand trade further with other countries worldwide. He also urged foreign investors to pay attention to the environmental catastrophe facing the Aral Sea in Central Asia.
The Prime Minister shared his ambitious plan to help Uzbekistan increase its gross domestic product per capita by 2030, aiming to make it a country with above-average economic performance. To achieve this, Aripov said that with other countries in Central Asia, they would develop mechanisms to boost trade turnover and maximize the use of the region’s mineral reserves. Through collective action, Central Asian countries can overcome the challenges they face and pave the way for further sustainable growth and development.
