China Surpasses Russia in Number of Operating Enterprises in Uzbekistan

The business landscape in Uzbekistan is undergoing significant changes, with a notable increase in the number of Chinese enterprises operating in the country. According to the Statistics Agency, the number of Chinese companies in Uzbekistan has grown by nearly 43% in the past year, reaching a total of 3,467. This surge marks a significant increase from the 2,432 Chinese enterprises that were operating in the country in the previous year.

In contrast, the number of Russian enterprises in Uzbekistan has declined. From 3,049 Russian companies in 2024, the number has decreased to 2,973 at the start of 2025. This represents a decrease in Russian business presence in the country.

Overall, as of February 1, there were 15,163 operating enterprises and organizations with foreign investment in Uzbekistan. Along with the increase in Chinese companies, there have been decreases in the number of enterprises with investments from other countries as well. The number of enterprises with investments from Turkey decreased from 1,901 to 1,869, from Kazakhstan – from 1,084 to 1,060, and from South Korea – from 736 to 660.

These changes in the business landscape of Uzbekistan reflect evolving foreign investment trends and the growing presence of Chinese companies in the country. It will be interesting to see how these developments continue to shape the business environment in Uzbekistan in the coming years.
