CIS Council of Heads of Government Meeting Results in Signing of Multilateral Agreements

The Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) met in Sochi to discuss and sign a number of important agreements aimed at furthering multilateral cooperation within the Commonwealth. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Akylbek Japarov, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the meeting, Japarov emphasized the continued relevance of the CIS as “a successful platform for multidisciplinary cooperation between the CIS countries” in the post-Soviet space.

One of the major agreements signed was the Agreement on Free Trade in Services, Establishment, Activities and Investments, which had been in the works for over 10 years. This agreement is expected to significantly boost economic cooperation between member states.

Another crucial agreement signed was the Agreement on Cooperation between the Commonwealth Member States in the Exchange of Radiation Monitoring Data, which will enhance the exchange of information and cooperation in this field.

Other decisions were also made in the areas of industrial cooperation, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, as well as financial and personnel matters.

As part of Kyrgyz Republic’s chairmanship in the CIS Council, a regulation on a sports contest for children with disabilities was approved.

The council meeting reaffirmed the commitment of the member states to work together towards common goals and continue strengthening ties within the CIS.
