Court Reviews Protocols on Armenian Armed Forces Massacre in Balligaya

Ongoing Trial Reveals Atrocities from the 1992 Balligaya Massacre

On May 5, the Baku Military Court continued its proceedings regarding the tragic events that unfolded in Balligaya village, Goranboy district, on August 28, 1992. The trial has focused on the protocols detailing a massacre perpetrated against internally displaced persons from the Lachin district.

The documents revealed that on that fateful night at approximately 5:00 AM, residents from Naghdali village, who had been temporarily relocated to tents near Gulustan forest after their district was occupied, were subjected to indiscriminate gunfire by approximately nine armed soldiers from Armenia. This brutal assault resulted in the deaths of 24 individuals, alongside 9 others who sustained injuries.

Among the victims were seven minors, four elderly individuals over the age of 60, and a total of 13 women and 11 men. The conditions surrounding their deaths were harrowing, as many were situated in makeshift accommodations referred to as "Finnish houses" and tents. It was reported that the attackers not only opened fire but subsequently set the tents ablaze.

During the site inspection, details surfaced that indicated the calamitous conditions faced by these displaced individuals. The remains of victims were discovered in various locations: one woman and six children were found inside the completely burned Finnish house, while additional bodies were located across the tents. In total, a grim enumeration detailed bodies from multiple tents and near a Belarus-branded tractor.

The ongoing trial includes charges against Armenian citizens related to crimes against peace and humanity. The accusations encompass a wide array of offenses such as war crimes, acts of terrorism, the orchestration of an aggressive war, genocide, and other violations stemming from Armenia’s military aggression. The court proceedings are set to resume on May 8, as the pursuit of justice for the victims continues.
