Creation of a Transport Corridor by Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, and Iran
Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey have agreed to establish an international multimodal corridor, as reported by the Uzbek Ministry of Transport. The heads of transport departments from the four countries held negotiations during the ministerial meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Tashkent on November 2, resulting in the signing of a protocol.
This protocol outlines the organization of transit cargo transportation between the Asia-Pacific region and the European Union through the territories of the participating countries. Additionally, it includes measures to enhance transport connectivity. One of the key aspects of this agreement is the implementation of competitive tariff rates and favorable conditions for rail transport. The parties also aim to harmonize regulatory and technical standards.
The Ministry of Transport emphasized that the establishment of alternative international transport corridors aligns with the objectives of the Uzbekistan 2030 strategy. This strategy aims to further integrate Uzbekistan into global transport and logistics networks and unlock its transit potential.
This initiative will facilitate trade and economic cooperation among the participating countries and enhance regional connectivity. It is expected to create new opportunities for businesses and contribute to the development of the transportation sector in the region.
The agreement reflects the commitment of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey to bolster their collaboration and promote efficient and competitive rail transportation. As the corridor becomes operational, it is anticipated to boost regional trade, strengthen economic ties, and foster mutual development.
