CTP Issues Statement in Front of Parliament – BRTK Update
The Assembly of the Republic is set to convene today, with the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and the National Unity Party (UBP) both scheduled to hold group meetings. Following a press statement by the CTP Group after their meeting in the morning, the focus of the General Assembly’s agenda is expected to be on determining the Council Presidency.
The election process began on October 7, with a total of 15 rounds of voting taking place for 3 candidates. Eventually, at the General Assembly meeting on October 18, it was announced that UBP Deputy Ziya Öztürkler had been elected as the President of the Assembly. However, CTP MPs raised concerns about 3 invalid ballot papers and adjourned the session on October 18.
Subsequently, on October 23, it was officially declared in the Official Gazette that Öztürkler had been elected as the Speaker of the Parliament. In response, CTP MPs held a press conference to contest the decision, claiming it to be null and void. The political atmosphere in the Assembly of the Republic remains tense as both parties continue to assert their positions.
