Customs Seize 2 Billion UZS in Smuggled Gold in Tashkent and Navoi
Authorities Foil Smuggling Attempts at Tashkent Airport and Navoi Customs Post
In a recent operation, the Anti-Smuggling Department of the Tashkent-Aero Specialized Customs Complex successfully intercepted an attempt to illegally import jewelry into the country. A citizen arriving from Abu Dhabi was apprehended at Tashkent International Airport while in the process of retrieving 226 grams of jewelry, valued at approximately 610 million UZS. The individual was caught loading the items into a vehicle, which had been smuggled into the country by fellow passengers on the same flight.
Customs officials are currently conducting thorough inspections and investigations related to this incident to uncover any further illegal activities.
In a separate case, another incident unfolded at the Navoi customs post where officers detected a pedestrian exhibiting suspicious behavior. Following a detailed inspection, authorities found an alarming 1,028 grams of gold bullion hidden on the individual. The total value of the confiscated bullion is estimated at around 1.312 billion UZS.
A criminal case has been initiated, and investigations are underway to determine the full scope of these smuggling attempts. The authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to combat illegal smuggling and ensure compliance with the country’s customs regulations.
