Delays in Implementing New Electricity Billing System in Uzbekistan
The Regional Electric Networks JSC in Uzbekistan has delayed the launch of its new billing system for electricity consumption, which was originally scheduled to start on August 1. The consumer portal has been non-functional for almost a week, causing inconvenience to consumers.
Anvar Gaibullaev, the First Deputy Chairman of Regional Electric Networks, announced in July that a new billing system would be introduced in the country starting August 1. The current system for managing electricity consumption records is based on a billing payment system introduced in 2012.
The company had planned maintenance work from July 31 to August 5 to implement the new “HET BILLING” software complex, but as of August 7, the personal account on the website was still not operational. The company cited the complexity of transferring data for the delay in launching the new system.
Fahriddin Nuraliyev, the press secretary of Regional Electric Networks, explained that transferring data for 8 million consumers to the new system requires thorough rechecking to ensure accuracy. The new billing system will provide comprehensive information to consumers, including cadastral data and improved payment details.
The new system, equipped with the latest server hardware, will offer additional features such as monitoring electricity consumption, payment details, and daily usage through a mobile app. The company also mentioned that the new program is linked to the installation of “smart” meters, with 100% coverage for existing consumers and ongoing installation due to population growth and other factors.
Despite the delay in the launch of the new billing system, Regional Electric Networks aims to have the personal account fully operational by the end of August 7. Consumers can look forward to improved services and convenient access to information once the system is up and running.
