Deputy suggests changes to Constitution

Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Mirlan Samyikozho has proposed a revision of the Basic Law, claiming that the current version contains mistakes and was prepared too hastily. Speaking at a meeting of the Parliament, Samyikozho criticized the translation process from Russian to Kyrgyz and called for a revision of the wording of the Constitution. He explained that even though the heads of the last Constitutional Conference claimed that the text was first written in Kyrgyz, errors due to the translation process are causing issues. Samyikozho’s proposals for a revision of the Basic Law have not yet been acted upon.
