Diplomatic Meetings with Albania, Portugal, and the Philippines
Meetings were recently held between the heads of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan and several other countries, including the Republic of Albania, the Portuguese Republic, and the Republic of the Philippines.
During the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 28, 2024, a delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, met with the Minister of European Affairs and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Igli Hasani. The discussions focused on enhancing mutual cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties between their respective foreign ministries through regular dialogue and political consultations. Additionally, they explored opportunities for expanding trade, industrial cooperation, tourism, investments, and business connections.
Later in the day, Minister Meredov also held talks with the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Paulo Rangel. They discussed the current status and future prospects of bilateral cooperation, highlighting their positive collaborative efforts within international organizations such as the UN. The ministers expressed interest in cooperation in areas like water resources management, digitalization, science, culture, and education, as well as exploring participation in events in both countries.
Lastly, Minister Meredov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Enrique Manalo, to address various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. They discussed enhancing political dialogue, organizing regular political consultations at the deputy foreign minister level, and expanding partnerships in economic, cultural, and humanitarian domains. Of particular significance was Turkmenistan’s proposal to establish a new dialogue mechanism called “Central Asia – ASEAN” to bolster cooperation between Central Asian countries and ASEAN in trade, economics, culture, and humanitarian fields.
These meetings underscored the commitment of Turkmenistan and these countries to deepen their ties and work together across multiple sectors for mutual benefit and prosperity.
