Displaced Rapper Finds Hope Through Music
A year ago, the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh forced more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians to flee their homes. Among the displaced was a talented rapper and singer named Lyoka, who had experienced displacement and conflict as a child growing up in the region. Lyoka had penned a song about the war that ravaged Nagorno-Karabakh in the early 1990s, which had become an anthem for others who had been uprooted from their homes.
Now living in Yerevan, Lyoka opened up about the deep sense of loss he felt when he was forced to leave Nagorno-Karabakh behind. Despite the hardships he had endured, Lyoka remained determined to use his music as a means of spreading a message of resilience and hope.
In the face of immense challenges and suffering, Lyoka’s story serves as a reminder of the power of art and music to inspire and uplift those who have been affected by conflict and displacement. Through his lyrics and melodies, Lyoka continues to share his experiences and hopes for a brighter future, serving as a voice for those who have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety and peace.
