English program offers microscholarships from 2023-2025

U.S. Embassy Dushanbe has announced a call for proposals for the 2023-2025 English Access Microscholarship Program. The aim of the program is to provide underprivileged youth with English language education as well as to enhance their leadership skills by teaching them about the basics of American culture and values of democratic development and civic engagement. Ninth-grade secondary school students from disadvantaged families are eligible to participate in the program. The English Access Microscholarship Program will cover two years of English study consisting of at least 180 hours of instruction per year. The program includes English language courses, out-of-classroom activities, and enhancement elements. The enhancement elements can include activities related to English language and American culture such as drama, computers, dance, art, music, games, sports, local trips, special cultural projects, or events that develop leadership skills and promote social responsibility and tolerance. The program will also have intensive summer sessions that supplement and conclude a student’s two-year English language programming.

The Access Cost Proposal template should have a detailed breakdown of costs for the two-year program which includes after-school instruction, books/materials, transportation, snacks for students, project administration, enhancement activities, intensive sessions, admin costs, etc. The costs associated with one student in the two-year program are approximately $1,000, and up to 50 students can participate in each project. Projects with higher numbers of students with lower costs are encouraged. The students should be in the ninth grade when they start the program.

Both governmental and non-governmental organizations are eligible to apply for this program. Every applicant must be currently involved in an English language teaching program. Service providers from remote areas of Tajikistan are especially encouraged to apply.

Proposals must be written in English and submitted electronically no later than July 31, 2023, to EnglishProgramsDushanbe@state.gov. More information on the program can be obtained from the Access Provider Handbook document.
