EU Provides €23 Million for Demining Efforts in Azerbaijan

EU to provide approximately 23 million euros for demining operations in Azerbaijan
The European Union (EU) is set to provide a total funding of approximately 23 million euros for demining operations in Azerbaijan, including the funds allocated for this year, as confirmed by the European External Action Service.
In addition to the 10 million euros that the EU plans to mobilize for the International Centre of Excellence and Training for Mine Action for the years 2024-2025, the EU’s support for demining operations in Azerbaijan will amount to around 23 million euros in total.
Brussels highlighted that the EU is the largest international donor in the field of mine action in Azerbaijan, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safe access of the population to natural resources and facilitating the safe and dignified return of individuals to their native lands.
Moreover, the EU, alongside its Member States, launched the Team Europe initiative on mine action in May 2024 with the aim of building capacity, providing training, raising awareness about mine risks, offering assistance to victims, and implementing various support activities within the framework of this initiative.
Overall, the EU’s continued commitment to demining operations in Azerbaijan underscores its dedication to promoting safety and security in the region and supporting the population in their journey towards a more stable and prosperous future.
