
Expert Clarifies Rahmon’s Visit to Kazakhstan is Solely for Economic Purposes

The state visit of Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan, to Kazakhstan on May 3 showcased the growing strategic cooperation between the two countries, stated Yersultan Zhanseitov from the Institute of World Economy and Politics in an interview with Jibek Joly TV Channel. The expert believes that the primary goal of the visit was economic, with discussions on trade, transportation, and Central Asian integration. Regional integration will play a significant role in defining trade flows and solving issues related to water, energy, and security in the region. Zhanseitov also highlighted the potential for Kazakh investment in Tajikistan’s energy sector, with Tajikistan serving as a key provider of water energy to Kazakhstan. During the Kazakh-Tajik business forum, businesses signed contracts worth $1.8 billion, demonstrating the strong demand for cooperation between the two countries. Tajikistan seeks foreign investment in its economy, and Kazakhstan has the potential to be a reliable investment partner and a key player in bilateral trade.
