“Explore the İzmir Culture and Art Factory”
The İzmir Culture and Art Factory has reopened with a new vision, offering guests of all ages a space for art and education workshops, exhibitions, an open-air cinema, and more. The factory, which opened its doors on April 29th, 2023, was restored and renovated under the coordination of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums and the İzmir Directorate of Surveying Monuments. The area includes the Archeology and Ethnography Museum, İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum, Atatürk Specialized Library, Alsancak Public Library, Turkish World Music Specialization Library, and more. The exhibits consist of approximately 6,000 works in İzmir, 400 works in the İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum, and approximately 100,000 books in the Turkish World Music Specialization Library. The largest building museum of archaeology and ethnography is located in the facility and includes the replica of the Belevi Mausoleum. İzmir Culture and Art Factory Manager Şirin Ertem said that the facility has a unique working and activity area for children, youth and adults and an art street. The factory has 20,000 square meters of indoor space and 9,200 square meters of open landscape and recreation areas. Ertem added that the center is fully compatible with sustainability principles from restoration techniques to infrastructure systems and supports local cultural life. It has been awarded the “Biosphere” certificate for its efforts in sustainability.
