Exploring the Feasibility of Monorail Roads in Bishkek
On March 20, 2025, a trilateral meeting took place in Bishkek, involving representatives from the Chinese company CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles, the Bishkek City Hall, and Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise. This meeting was organized with the support of the Trade Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan in Uzbekistan.
The focus of the meeting was on discussing the potential construction of monorail roads in Bishkek and exploring the possibilities for their future development. During the negotiations, all parties agreed to thoroughly examine the various aspects of implementing this project, including its economic and technical feasibility.
The Bishkek City Hall will present the Chinese company with sketches of the proposed monorail road construction for further review. It was emphasized that this project could be carried out through a public-private partnership, creating opportunities to attract foreign investors.
Additionally, Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise expressed interest in hybrid electric trains, which have the potential to significantly reduce harmful emissions and enhance the environmental sustainability of rail transportation in Kyrgyzstan.
The implementation of the monorail roads project in Bishkek is expected to greatly enhance the city’s transport infrastructure, offering residents a convenient and modern mode of transportation. This new form of transport is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion, decrease travel times, and enhance the overall mobility of the population.
