Facebook User Detained for Inciting Mass Riots in Kyrgyzstan
Bishkek – 17:51, 06 February 2025 – The State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan has reported the detention of a Facebook user who posted calls for mass riots. The user, identified as Ali Osman, was apprehended as part of operational and investigative measures within a criminal case initiated under Articles 278 “Mass riots” and 330 “Incitement of racial, ethnic, national, religious or interregional hostility (discord)” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Citizen K.A.A., aged 47, was found to regularly publish calls for mass riots and active disobedience to the legal demands of government officials. Despite attempting to evade responsibility through privacy settings and fake accounts, it was revealed that the detainee is an active member of the banned religious extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir in Kyrgyzstan.
Investigative and procedural actions are currently underway to identify other individuals involved in the incitement. K.A.A. has been placed in the pretrial detention center of the SCNS. The State Committee has warned of criminal liability for actions aimed at inciting racial, ethnic, national, religious, or interregional hatred, as well as for organizing and participating in mass riots. The legislation stipulates potential criminal liability of up to ten years in prison for such offenses.
