Fidesz accuses EU institutions of corruption

Hungarian MEPs from the ruling Fidesz party have called for the European Parliament to tackle corruption within its own walls, before tackling the issue in third countries. Balázs Hidvéghi said that the uncovering of a corruption scandal in the European Parliament and similar practices in the European Commission had seen no reference to them in internal investigation or accountability proceedings. Hungarian MEP Tamás Deutsch said that Brussels bureaucracy was entangled in a web of corruption, and criticised the parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) for failing to mention EU corruption in its reports.
