“Fire Breaks Out in Sultanbeyli Slum”

Slum in Istanbul’s Sultanbeyli Catches Fire
A fire broke out in the shanty house situated in the Hasanpaşa neighbourhood of Istanbul’s Sultanbeyli district. The incident occurred on Ufuk Street, where Hatice Şahin, 70, was present at home during the outbreak.
Thanks to the quick intervention of the citizens, Şahin was rescued from the home. However, shortly after, the flames engulfed the slum. Firefighters, health, and police teams immediately rushed to the scene and took control of the situation, preventing the fire from spreading to the neighbouring three-story building.
As a precautionary measure, Hatice Şahin was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and the police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
A local resident, who witnessed the fire, expressed concern saying: “This aunt stayed in the house” in relation to Hatice Şahin after the incident occurred.
Fires in slums are always a concern because of the high risk of property damage and casualties. Authorities and residents alike must remain vigilant so that an incident like this one does not repeat itself in the future.
