First CUPRA Terramar Produced at Audi Hungaria
The first CUPRA Terramar model has officially begun production at the Audi factory in Győr, Hungary. This marks a significant milestone for the German car maker as they expand their production capabilities to include vehicles from their “sister brand.”
Audi Hungaria chairman Michael Breme expressed his enthusiasm for the new production line, stating that it would help increase capacity utilization at the plant for the next five years. The Terramar model is built on the same platform as the popular Audi Q3, ensuring quality and performance.
CUPRA CEO Wayne Griffith highlighted the success of the brand since its launch in 2018, with over 700,000 units sold in just six years. This success reflects the growing demand for high-quality vehicles in the market.
Zoltán Les, the director for vehicle production at Audi Hungary, emphasized the importance of the automotive industry in Hungary. With over 700 companies and 150,000 people directly employed in the sector, recent investments are expected to double the annual output to over 1 million units in the coming years.
After the market launch of the Terramar, production will ramp up to approximately 300 vehicles per day. In the previous year, Audi Hungaria produced over 170,000 vehicles and 1.6 million engines, showcasing their manufacturing prowess.
Overall, the addition of the CUPRA Terramar to the production line in Győr signals a new era of collaboration and innovation for Audi and their sister brand. This partnership will not only boost production capabilities but also contribute to the growth of the automotive industry in Hungary.
