First Snow of the Season Approaching in Hungary
Hungary Experiences Indian Summer Ahead of First Snowfall
Hungary has been basking in an extended Indian summer this year, with warm and dry weather persisting well into late October. Although a brief cooler spell was felt in September, the temperatures have mostly remained above average, offering ideal conditions for outdoor activities. Even this weekend is expected to feel more like summer than fall.
However, a significant change is on the horizon. According to experts at TV2’s news magazine Facts, Tuesday is forecasted to bring colder temperatures, strong winds, and increased precipitation to the region. The Kőszegi Mountains are expected to experience especially cold conditions, with the possibility of snowfall by next week.
Last October saw record-high temperatures in Hungary, but this year’s temperatures have been closer to seasonal norms. Night-time lows currently hover around 3–5°C, while daytime highs reach approximately 15°C. This shift in weather patterns is indicative of broader climate changes in the region.
Experts at MCC’s Climate Policy Institute highlight the rapid temperature rise in the Carpathian Basin compared to surrounding areas, attributing it to global warming. Winters and summers are now warmer than ever in Hungary, with an increase in the number of summer-like days even during autumn and spring. This trend is expected to continue as climate change accelerates.
As Hungary braces for the impending cold snap, residents are urged to prepare for the arrival of winter weather. Stay tuned for updates on the first snowfall and be sure to enjoy the last remnants of the lingering Indian summer while you can.
