Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan recently spoke at a joint press conference after a meeting on Syria in Aqaba, Jordan. Fidan emphasized the importance of the region’s current historic period and the need to prioritize the safety, freedom, and prosperity of the Syrian people.
“We are gathered once again to discuss the Syrian people and the ongoing situation in Syria. It is essential for the Syrian people to live in conditions similar to ours. The stability of Syria is critical not only for the region but also for the global community,” stated Minister Fidan.
He highlighted the necessity of a systematic, inclusive, and Syrian-led transition process during this significant period. Fidan emphasized the need to safeguard the integrity of Syria and protect its diverse social structure, including the rights of all minorities.
One key point raised by Minister Fidan was the urgent need for Israel to cease its attacks immediately in order to maintain peace and stability in the region.
The summit in Jordan, attended by notable figures such as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, focused on supporting a smooth transition process in Syria led by Syrians themselves. The restructuring of Syrian state institutions to ensure unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, stability, and the rights of all citizens was a key agenda item.
