Former Beşiktaş Mayor Murat Treasuredar ordered to evacuate.
Former Beşiktaş Mayor Murat Treasuredar has attended a four-day hearing at Istanbul’s 31st High Criminal Court. Treasuredar, who has been imprisoned for five months, attended the hearing through the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS), while the detained defendants Çetin Kırışgil and Hüseyin Avni Sipahi, along with some pending defendants and their lawyers, were present in the hall. During the hearing, statements were taken from all the defendants and some of the complainants.
Treasuredar vehemently denied the bribery allegations, stating that there was no evidence to support them. He accused the accusers of conspiring against him, saying that they were trying to defile his name. Responding to allegations about the Beltaş Foundation, he stated that he had created a clean and auditable foundation, every penny of which had been spent legally.
Following the hearing, the prosecutor requested the release of the investigated defendants. Treasuredar, who was promised after the opinion, submitted his request for release by stating that there was no proof of bribery or extortion in his case. The court agreed to the prosecutor’s request and ordered the release of Treasuredar, Sipahi and Kırışgil, with a travel ban imposed. The hearing was adjourned to October 18.
Treasuredar’s wife and son expressed their joy at the news of his release. In the indictment, Treasuredar was accused of attempting to commit corruption eight times, extortion eight times, bribery twice, and abuse of office five times. The prosecutor has requested a total of 70 years, six months and 154 years imprisonment for him.
The trial continues and has attracted considerable attention from the public and the media.
