
Former Kyrgyz President Atambayev condemns police brutality against party member.

Bishkek – 15:08, 23 January 2025 – Ermek Ermatov, a member of the Social Democrats political party, was reportedly beaten during his detention, as stated by Kadyrbek Atambayev on Facebook.
According to Atambayev, Ermatov suffered abrasions and bruises all over his body, making it difficult for him to walk. He also experienced severe pain in his left side due to rib injuries sustained during the incident. Ermatov shared with his party colleagues that he was approached by suspicious masked individuals who surrounded his car and attempted to break the door. When he started recording them on camera, the individuals backed off and left. Later, he was informed that the operation was part of a “Kidnapping” raid.
Atambayev also mentioned that when other party members arrived at the scene, a police officer claimed that Ermatov had allegedly refused to present his documents during the confrontation.
The news of Ermatov’s treatment during the detention has sparked outrage and concern among members of the political party and the public. Investigations are expected to be carried out to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice for Ermatov.
