Galatasaray Maintains Pursuit of the Summit: No Mistakes at Home
Galatasaray defeats Kayserispor 2-1 at home to continue successful season.
In the 20th week of the Super League, Galatasaray hosted Kayserispor on its home field and continued their successful performance by beating Kayserispor 2-1.
Galatasaray’s goals were scored by Victor Nelsson and Dries Mertens from the penalty spot, while Aylton Boa Morte scored the guest team’s goal. With the victory, the yellow-red team increased its points to 51 and closed the week 2 points behind the leader Fenerbahçe. Kayserispor remained at 29 points.
Galatasaray players and fans celebrated the win in joy, with Mertens making a winning “triple”.
This victory adds to Galatasaray’s impeccable record this season, with the team being undefeated in the last 27 home matches in the Super League. They had 25 wins and 2 draws in the league matches played in Seyrantepe during this period.
In fact, Galatasaray won all 10 matches it played at RAMS Park this season in the Super League, the only team that did not lose any points at home in the Super League this season.
Goalkeeper Fernando Muslera also played an important role in the win with a crucial penalty save in the match. Galatasaray is the team that conceded the fewest goals in the league.
Both Mertens and Nelsson contributed to the win with their goals. It was Mertens’ 5th goal of the season and Nelsson’s first goal in official matches this season.
However, not everyone had a good day as Coach Okan Buruk and Brazilian football player Mateus Tete were not met with approval. Okan Buruk received a yellow card for his objections during the match and Tete faced protest from the fans for his performance.
