Gazprom and Kazakhstan Sign Contracts for Gas Transit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan
The Russian company Gazprom has recently signed important contracts with Kazakhstan for gas transit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024. This agreement marks a significant milestone in the cooperation between the countries in the energy sector.
A meeting was held during the forum between Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjayev, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, and Chairman of the Board of Gazprom PJSC, Alexey Miller. The discussions revolved around various aspects of their cooperation, including current and future supplies of Russian gas to Uzbekistan.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the signing of an action plan by the Chairman of the Board of Gazprom and the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Roman Sklyar, to increase the supply of Russian gas through Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan via the Central Asia – Center (CAC) – 4 gas pipeline.
This development builds upon previous agreements between the parties. In June 2023, a two-year contract was signed for the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan, along with a roadmap for preparing the gas transportation system of Uzbekistan. Subsequently, in October 2023, Russian gas supplies began to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan via the Central Asia – Center gas trunkline system. In November 2023, the government of Uzbekistan and Gazprom further solidified their partnership by signing a strategic memorandum of cooperation in the energy sector, encompassing supplies, gas transportation, geological exploration, and hydrocarbon production.
The latest contracts and agreements signed during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 demonstrate the commitment of Gazprom and its partner countries to strengthen their energy collaboration and ensure reliable gas transit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
