Greenhouse Growers Union Protests Minister’s Statement on Fruit and Vegetable Imports
The Greenhouse Growers Union recently took a stand against the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, by laying a black wreath at the Ministry’s doorstep. This protest was in response to Minister Arıklı’s controversial statement regarding the release of fruit and vegetable imports.
The Turkish Cypriot Farmers Union joined in support of the action, highlighting the unity and solidarity among agricultural producers in the region.
During the protest, Greenhouse Growers Union President Veli Bayır criticized Minister Arıklı for what he described as an “unfortunate statement at the expense of destroying the producers.” Bayır accused the Minister of using the issue to gain attention and stay in the media spotlight.
Similarly, Turkish Farmers Union President Mehmet Nizam expressed disappointment in Minister Arıklı’s approach, suggesting that he should focus on matters within his jurisdiction rather than interfering with agricultural production.
The laying of a black wreath at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport symbolized the growers’ dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of agricultural policies and the impact on local producers.
Overall, the protest served as a reminder of the challenges faced by farmers and the importance of dialogue and cooperation between government officials and agricultural stakeholders to support sustainable and prosperous farming practices.
