Hasipoğlu: TRNC’s International Recognition Inevitable – BRTK

UBP Secretary General Calls for an End to Isolation of Turkish Cypriot People

In a recent statement, National Unity Party (UBP) Secretary General Oguzhan Hasipoglu criticized the United Nations for ignoring the will of the Turkish Cypriot side for 61 years and called for an end to the isolation of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Hasipoglu emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people have already deserved the surrender of sovereign equality and equal international status. He stated that the UN’s decision dated March 4, 1964, which recognized the Republic of Cyprus as the only country on the island, needs to be revised in light of the current realities.

According to Hasipoglu, the UN Security Council’s actions have only fueled the non-solution and created a comfort zone for the Greek side in Cyprus. He stressed that the right to law, equality, humanity, and life have been ignored by this decision.

Pointing out the inconclusive negotiation processes, Hasipoglu called for a revision of the outdated decision and urged the UN to value Kofi Annan’s report in 2004. He stated that the TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) will sooner or later take its deserved place in the international arena.

Hasipoglu also highlighted the new policy of cooperation between Turkey and the TRNC, emphasizing the importance of establishing political, economic, and social relations with world states. With the support of Turkey, he believes that the TRNC will overcome obstacles and strengthen its ties with Turkish states and other important world organizations in the future.
